Diwali!

Namaste Bloggers!

This week was Diwali and my class and I have been making beautiful arts and crafts for Diwali! Diwali is a Hindu festival known as the Festival Of Lights. The meaning of Diwali is Row of lighted lamps but is mostly called Light Festival.

It all started with the story of Rama and Sita. One day Rama got exiled into the forest for 14 years. Since Sita loved Rama so much she went with him as well. While they were in the forest, the demon king Ravana kidnapped the princess Sita. Rama had a brother named Lakshmana, who went searching with Rama to try and find Sita but couldn’t find her. Rama and his brother then met a giant monkey named Hanuman. Hanuman collected an army of monkeys and went searching for Sita all over India. Then there were these people who found a bird who then found Sita!

Before Diwali starts Hindus have to do a big huge clean up inside and outside their house. Before Diwali Hindus send cards to their friends and family, send some presents to each other, buy new clothes and many more! They also decorate their houses with Diya’s(candles) and lamps. Hindus even draw Rangoli patterns on the floor to welcome their guests and it is a welcome to their Goddess of wealth.
