Life Cycle of a Butterfly ( First post of the year)

Talofa Lava! This is my first post of 2024!

Last week, me and my class have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. So we did some writing about it. Eggs, Larva, Pupa and Butterfly are the different types of stages of a butterfly.

Writing:

Eggs:

When female butterflies lay their eggs, they lay them on a leaf. When the female butterfly lays the eggs, the Larva/Caterpillar slowly starts to grow in the egg. Once the Caterpillar grows, it eats the egg to set free. They can also just hatch the egg.

Larva:

Once the Larva eats/hatch themselves out, it goes and eats leaves. They eat a lot! Most of us call it Caterpillars. Larva’s/Caterpillars have lots of legs. More than four legs! Once the Caterpillar continues to eat, they will get bigger and bigger until their skin sheds. When they shed, their skin slips right off. When they’re finished,  they turn into Pupa!

Pupa:

Fun fact, Pupa’s are also called Chrysalis and Cocoons. Once they transform, they hang upside down on a branch just like a bat. When they hang, they stay still so their predators like birds don’t come and eat them. After that, their wings break free into a Butterfly!

Butterfly:

Once the butterfly is free, it goes and flies all around sunny days. Butterflies love to eat the nectar from flowers. Lots of butterflies come in different types of colours. Butterflies then lay eggs and the life cycle starts all over again.

AI activities

Talofa Lava Bloggers!

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we had a reliever teacher who we call Whaea Terri. She brought some activities and her dogs to school. We did lots of activities around AI.(artificial intelligents) We were coding/teaching the dogs, coding with Turing Tumble, Moral Machine and AI with superheros.

Turing Tumble

Turing Tumble is like a game where you have to do a lot of coding. It really helps excersize your brain. I was in a group with Vienna, Me and Hamdha. Then after lunch time I changed groups which was Sariyah, Me and Vienna. There was a book that came in the box with all the instructions and there was also a little comic inside you could read. So the next thing we had to do was we had to read the instructions that were on the book. First we had to take out two parts of the stand and put them together to make the stand. The next thing we had to do was we had to count how many red balls and blue balls we needed. Then we had to put them on the top of the board. The next thing we had to do was we had to get the pieces and follow the instructions to see where we had to put it. After you put the pieces on the board, we had to make the balls go down. It was very fun but difficult for me and my group. We got up to challenge three which we really struggled with but other classmates found it very easy.

Coding Real Dogs

When Whaea Terri came, she also brought her cute dogs! Their names were Bonnie and Clyde. She told us that they were named after robbers in the 90s. Me and 2 of my friends Sariyah and Vienna were coding Whaea Terri’s dogs! It was really fun and they were so cute! Whaea Terri gave us a couple of treats and we did some cool tricks with them! We made them sit, shake, high-five, lay down, stay and wait. What I mean bye stay and wait is we had the treat in our hand and we walked away and told them to stay. Then we tell them to come get it. What I mean by wait is we leave the treat on the floor and tell them to wait and tell them to get it afterwards. Me, Sariyah and Vienna mostly coded Clyde because Bonnie was too scared and she was still trying to get to know us.

Moral Machines

Whaea Terri asked us to get a pencil and paper and write Moral Machine on it. Then we had to go to our tables and search it up on google and click on the site. What we had to do on the site was we had some questions. Me personally I love animals so I picked the animals over humans for some of the questions. But if the humans were old or pregnant I would choose humans.

EXAMPLE: The car curves and hits a homeless man, an old man, a pregnant woman and her son. Or the car drives straight and kills two cats and two women.

Hour of Code

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Since we had been working a lot about AI (Artificial Intelligent’s) we have been trying new activities around AI. We tried a game called an hour of code. What we had to do was there were some objects and we had to sort out whether it was a fish or rubbish. Then we had to choose whether we wanted to keep practising or go to the next lesson. Then there was a different activity where we had to sort out sea creatures and rubbish. Same thing with this we had the choice to keep practising or move on to the  next session. There would also be a video in between each activity. After we finished the activities we all got a certificate!

Here’s mine:

Swimming!

Talofa Lava Bloggers!

From week 2 to week 6, Hay Park school has been having swimming lessons! We had our swimming sessions at Cameron Pools. We also had it every Tuesday and Thursday. It wasn’t very far from our school so we would walk there. The swimming teachers were Sam, Bella and Lian. My teacher was Bella. My group was Me, Zaynab, Blane, Krisha, Lorenzo, Rouie, Ayyan, Riduan and Steven.

One session we went to the nan’s pool to make currents. First we had to get a board and push it forward to make strong currents. Then me and my group all took turns trying to swim through the current. We also learnt how to fall off a boat. We had to sit on the edge of the boat and put our arm across our life jacket then hold the life jacket and put the other hand on our head. Then we just fall back. We also learnt how to float with a bottle and learnt how to make a bottle float. First we tried making the bottle float filled then we tried to make the bottle float with no water inside. Then we tried swimming on our front with no water inside and the same thing but on our backs. Then we tried swimming with water in the bottle on our front and back. Then we tried this challenge where we had to hug hold our knees under water and let our body float in the water. I enjoyed having a bit of like free time because Riduan didn’t want to come in the water so Bella(swimming teacher) tried to make him come inside the water so sometimes I would just swim around. I found breathing under water challenge difficult because I wanted to win for no reason but I was struggling to breathe under water.

Diwali!

Namaste Bloggers!

This week was Diwali and my class and I have been making beautiful arts and crafts for Diwali! Diwali is a Hindu festival known as the Festival Of Lights. The meaning of Diwali is Row of lighted lamps but is mostly called Light Festival.

It all started with the story of Rama and Sita. One day Rama got exiled into the forest for 14 years. Since Sita loved Rama so much she went with him as well. While they were in the forest, the demon king Ravana kidnapped the princess Sita. Rama had a brother named Lakshmana, who went searching with Rama to try and find Sita but couldn’t find her. Rama and his brother then met a giant monkey named Hanuman. Hanuman collected an army of monkeys and went searching for Sita all over India. Then there were these people who found a bird who then found Sita!

Before Diwali starts Hindus have to do a big huge clean up inside and outside their house. Before Diwali Hindus send cards to their friends and family, send some presents to each other, buy new clothes and many more! They also decorate their houses with Diya’s(candles) and lamps. Hindus even draw Rangoli patterns on the floor to welcome their guests and it is a welcome to their Goddess of wealth.

My Cybersmart Media Art

Talofa Lava Bloggers!

In week 5, we had to watch tutorials from YouTube and we had to try and make a piece of art following the tutorial. The three choices we had were drawing a minion, making art on google drawings and making art on Pixel art. I chose to make art on a google drawing because it looks fun and creative. I didn’t really learn anything new today but I hope I will next week. I enjoyed picking my photo my photo that I chose was a Samoan Teuila flower. I found drawing with the Polyline tool to outline my photo. The part in the video where it zooms in helped me because I didn’t think of zooming in to make it easier. What didn’t help me learn was when I had to draw lots and lots of shapes and so it kind of confused me a bit.

Here is the tutorial video I used:

Cybersmart- Researching

Talofa Lava Bloggers!

Today we were doing some research for Cybersmart. We had these slides that had words like who, the who and a who. We had to research the word/words and screenshot the results. We had more slides like that we had to do. After we finished those activities we had to do another activity where there were some questions and we had to highlight the words we can search instead of a whole sentence and we had to answer the questions. My favourite part was the first activity where we had to screenshot the results. The challenging part was when I researched my answer twice but both results were different so I got confused.

What way do you find easier to research?

Bike Day!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

In week 3, my school had bike day! I didn’t have a bike so I used the one that the worker Joshus brought. First off we had to go to room 7 and do a few activities. The activities we did were we had to find the problems on this poster. The problems that were on the poster were like people crossing the road even though it was a red light, and people riding their bikes on the road. The next activity we did was we got to play word search on paper. After we did the word search we had to grab a sticker and put it on a column. The columns had options of what we take to school and what we wanted to take to school. The options were car, bike, scooter, walk and bus. I chose car for both of them because I live pretty far away. After we did the activities, we headed outside to the bikes.

When we went outside, we had to choose our helmets. Then we had to choose a buddy. First I chose my friend Layla, then I changed buddies to my other friend Loiloi. Joshua was telling us how to check out helmets and bikes. After we got our helmets and bikes ready we started our first activity. My friend Loiloi went first because I’m not confident riding bikes without raining wheels yet, so I wanted to watch her first. When it was my turn the activity we did was we couldn’t take our feet off the pedals. I obviously wasn’t confident so I was like the second or third person out. Then the bell rang for lunchtime.

Are you confident riding a bike with no training wheels?

I forgot the recipe for both dishes but they were very delicious!

Have you cooked at school before?

Here are some of the photos of our amazing dishes!
